Kinja'd!!!

I don’t know anything about this BMW but it’s a wagon so it has that going for it, which is nice.

Kinja'd!!!

I’m not sure what this badge means lol

Kinja'd!!!

Are these special wheels?

Yo dawg, I heard you like roof racks, so we put some bars on your bars so you can rack while you rack.

Yeah that’s an impressive rack to be sure.

That is the expensive way to roof rack. I used $8 worth of u-bolts and stainless nylock nuts to fasten a set of old (free) Thule bars to my wagon like that... and to my current Volvo wagon too.

AWD. I’ve forgotten if you could get a manual with AWD and the 2.5L.

Tint is too dark for CA code, so that’s a citation-in-waiting.

I’d be shocked if all 4 window regulators still work...

I may know a thing or two about that car

Kinja'd!!!

This was taken in the time between buying the blue one and selling the black one, right in the middle of 10 years of E46 325xi (manual!) wagon ownership.

Badge should ideally say xiT, but I don’t think BMW labeled the Touring so overtly in the US.

X means all wheel drive, and I reminds us that the car does not have a carburetor. That’s the most important one of all.

I have a 323iT with a manual...  I’m still having nightmares.

Yup. They introduced it way back in the 60s, I think. It just stuck around for tradition.

Now when I look at BMW badg ing I’ll have myself a chuckle. They need to throw abs in there haha.

3 - 3 series

25 - 2.5 litres

X - All wheel drive

i - Petrol  engine

At this point, there were no carbureted Bimmers, so the i means it's a gas engine and not a diesel (d) one.

True...but how about those couple of decades with no carburetors OR diesels in the US ?

The ‘80s just wouldn’t have been the same if people couldn’t say “325i”

Well. I was rustled. Then I looked closely at the photo and saw rust bubbling under the paint and ove r spray of the questionable paint work variety. I don’t do rust. I’m now de-rustled. That was a cool car at one point, though.

Thank you, I miss it. It was also just about perfect as a daily driver, and did 90 % of the things I needed a car to do, while being fun to drive at the same time.

Yes you could! I had two of them. You could get the 330xi with a manual, too, but only in the sedan (no 330 wagon here).

The “i” badging was introduced at a time when that was far from standard.

Yeah, that’s right.  Sigh.  Never knew why they didn’t do a 330iT here.  Seemed like a natural.  Of course, no M3 wagon either so...

Right? The wagon was heavier than the sedan, so let’s... not give it a little more power? Especially with awd?!

I mean we all bitch  “why don’t Americans buy wagons instead of tall SUVs”, but then you look at the offerings and realize they generally are underpowered and often don’t have AWD.

I’d have thought that BMW could have moved some E46 and E90 wagons with AWD and the big motors if they’d Allroad-ized them with a bit of lift and bigger tires. Maybe some dumb body cladding that seems to go with the category...

You may be right they might have sold more, but I’m glad they didn’t mess with their wagons (they just made the X1 instead). I like every 3- and 5- series wagon ever made, as far as looks anyway.

Yeah, can’t argue. I’ve always been so-so on the E39 sedan styling... but then I see an E39 Wagon and I gets the tingles.

E46 wagon is darn fine looking car.

325xi

It’s actually

$325  times “i” is the amount you’ll spend replacing front axles. “i” is a variable, between 20,000 and 30,000 miles, depending on how often you do donuts with the car. I did a lot of donuts with my 325xi.

The worst is theres a dealer in my town called west german that sticks a wg badge thats the same font as the regular badge on every car. The other day i saw like an x40i wg m xdrive or something similar and wanted to vomit. Personally I have the badges removed from my Z3 and 530i
